Music

I recently did this English assignment that turned out much different than I had expected. It ended up being somewhat close to poetry, so be warned.
As you walk out of the house, you plug in your headphones, and the effects are almost immediate. It starts with a smile on your way to the store, and next thing you know, you’re singing along. You start walking to the beat and maybe even bobbing your head with the song. People start looking at you funny when it appears that you’re singing to the vegetables, but it doesn't matter because in your mind, it’s just you and your music. There are few things as truly powerful as music. Every little piece of the song: notes, intervals, melodies, lines, crescendos, all culminate together and create something together that none could match on their own. Each instrument doing its own thing, yet it somehow works, somehow fits together. With one verse complimenting the other and each note flowing to the next, you wonder how something so beautiful could be created.

When you put in your headphones, a wave comes over you, a wave of emotions and excitement that can be positive or negative. Each song is like a journey, with its ups and downs, its twist and turns; you feel satisfied at the end, yet part of you wishes that it didn’t have to end. Of course, it has to end, or it would lose its magic. The magic of notes and melodies that can stir up emotions you thought you were incapable of feeling, and then throw them away for something new. The comfort that comes when the lyrics describe exactly how you feel and you realize that there’s someone who understands, someone who gets it. Sometimes it’s not that deep though; sometimes you just become full and you start moving as the music moves you. You can almost see the song, as though you’re writing the greatest music video in history as you listen, yet it’s effortless; it’s almost as though the music is the one doing the work. You can’t imagine a song that would make you happier, and you can’t remember ever being more filled with joy. Even as the song comes to a close, it lingers there, and stays with you like the wonderful aftertaste of a warm cup of tea. You try to move on, but you’re still contemplating the lyrics. Somehow, they mean more than if someone had simply spoken them to you.

When you return home, you stir on the lyrics that came with you on your journey.
"If I give to a needy soul but don’t have love then who is poor?” – For King & Country
"Somewhere I will find all the pieces torn apart.”  - Red
“There’s a cry in my heart for Your glory to fall, for Your presence to fill up my senses.” - Starfield
“There is no way with all the mistakes I have made that I’d even be here today if it wasn’t for Your grace.” – B.Reith
You are appreciative not only of the  music, but also of the artists behind the songs, the way you would feel if you had spent the day with them, and you make plans to meet again tomorrow.
