Our Stories

I went through a season of my life where God spoke to me a fair bit about stories. More specifically, my story and your story. So I wrote out what I feel God was impressing on me and broke it into 3 parts.
Here's part 1

Consumed Conference Part 1

Recently I spent the weekend at the Consumed Conference in Comox at Nothgate Foursquare Church. I took a lot of notes and learned a lot of interesting stuff. So this is the first of a 4 part series that's just my notes from this conference.
We had a great speaker from Seattle, Mark Venti. The 1st, 2nd, and 4th parts of this series are notes from his sermons. Part 3 is from a workshop that was taught by someone else, who's name escapes me.
I hope that this information impacts you the way it has impacted me.

Statistics

I recently spent some time research prison statistics and started to get confused.
You see, statistics can be interpreted many different ways.
Here's what I mean...

Idolatry

wow. heavy topic.
I know, but I want to really quickly and lightly (much like philadelphia cream cheese) touch on this.

Fantastical

Fantastic Fact: When Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine", wrote the original Hippoocratic Oath, he included a promise to never perform an abortion operation.

Fantastic Animal: Ant Eater. This animal is just an elephant wannabe, but somehow he manages to pull it off. Also, was Adam just tired when he name the creature, or was the ant eater last in line and all of the good names were already taken?

Fantastic Book: Around the World in 80 Days

Fantastic word: Flabbergasted

Fantastic Language: Latin, I would love to learn to speak Latin mostly for one reason: Who speaks Latin? No one, except for Robyn, that's right. booyah

Pretending you Prayed

I don't pray enough.

I'm not sure how much IS enough (as though you could get too much Jesus) but I know I'm not there yet.
But what's even worse is when I start lying about my prayer life. I'm not even joking, when was the last time you said one of these things, even if they weren't completely true?

General Greatness

Great music video of the week: Family Force 5's Never Let Me Go

Great quote of the week: "The difficulty is to detach the framework of fact--of absolute undeniable fact--from the embellishments of theorists and reporters. Then, having established ourselves upon this sound basis, it is our duty to see what inferences may be drawn and what are the special points upon which the whole mystery turns."

Greece's Advantage?

I’ve spent the last week and a half studying ancient Greece, Turkish Greece, as well as Greece today. I was originally going to spend some time studying ancient philosophers but the research began to morph. I was at a second hand book store and I bought The Illiad by Homer, so I wanted to learn a bit more about him as well as the philosophers I was going to focus on (Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.) Then I remember that Archimedes lived around the same time that these guys did, and Archimedes is one of my heroes, so I couldn’t leave him out of my study. Then I thought that since I’d come this far already, I’d just learn about great minds from ancient history. But as I was writing up short bios to start with for each of these people, I began to realize that all but one or two were from Greece. So I thought “There must be something about Greece that is helping these people” this is why I decided to study Greece.

Labels

This past summer I was helping out at a day camp. It was a sports camp so I was the coach of soccer. We had some really neat kids who were all very uniquely awesome.
There was this one little boy with us who is probably in grade 2, and he has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
I had a few other teens who were helping me lead these kids in soccer, and they didn't know this little boy as well as I  did (I have known him for a couple of years now)

Santa Clause AKA Mr. CreepyMan

Before I get started, let me tell you a story. Just the other day I'm walking home with my friend, and we start talking about my blog, and I start telling her about this post and how I was hoping to write it soon. So I tell her the name and she says "That's a very Robyn title."
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?
I have no idea if that's a good thing, or if I'm really that predictable, but just thought I'd share that.
anyways, moving on...

RESISTING THE URGE TO THUMP OUT THOSE PEOPLE WHO SEEM ALL TOO EAGER TO EXPLAIN TO YOU ALL OF THIER REASONS WHY YOU SHOULDN'T HOMESCHOOL

I'm home schooled, always have been and plan to be for a while still.
Which means I've gotten pretty used to the criticism that us home school kids get.
I've gotten pretty good at answering the grocery clerk's question of "no school today?" whenever I go out before 3 o'clock on a weekday.

Memorizing Scripture

You may not be ready to listen to what I'm about to say
I'll be honest with you, until a couple of months ago, i wouldn't believe what I'm about to say.
I'm about to say something you might think you're supposed to believe, or you might already believe it...sort of....in your head.....some days.
I pray that your ears will be opened to this, and that you will trust, not me, but God's word and what He says about this topic.

How Do You Define Yourself?

The other day I was listening to The Shack by Wm. Paul Young, and I heard something interesting that I had recently learned about in the speaking course I'm taking (Sound Speech published by BJU Press).

Hey guys

So I'm really sorry about changing URLs, my old site just didn't have much as far as features goes, so I thought this way it would be easier to share and to follow my blog. :)
