-Isaiah 1:17
IJM works against human trafficking, illegal land seizure (an action typically directed at widows,) physical and sexual abuse, unjust imprisonment, and forced prostitution. They do so in a number of ways towards the goals of victim relief, perpetrator accountability, survivor aftercare, and structural transformation.
Like I said, I’m a fan.
But, I’m not actually writing this to ask you to donate, as
you may have expected. Sure, I think that would be awesome, and if you feel led
then you should definitely do so. I actually want to recommend that you sign up
for their newsletter and/or follow them on Twitter.
When I wake up on a Thursday morning not wanting to get out
of bed, not wanting to face the day, to turn on my ipod and learn that a bunch
of people were just freed from slavery is a pretty awesome thing.
When I feel like there’s no
hope, that the world is too full of pain, and I go online where I find a story
about a group of trafficking survivors who have been getting together in Cebu
Phillipines and are not only working towards leading a normal life but also helping
other survivors get to the place they're at, it’s pretty exciting.
When I’m lacking motivation, to find a tweet about 250
ex-slaves graduating from IJM’s freedom school, it makes me think, if they can
overcome their obstacles to get to that place, I might be able to get it done.
The point is, it’s pretty dang encouraging.
You can sign up for the newsletter on their website: ijm.org
Follow them on
Twitter: @IJMHQ
And I believe that
they’re on fb as well.
